Fantasy People places and architecture in my novel. Help!?
Okay so i'm writing a novel and i'm really stuck on what i should name places, people, and architecture in my fantasy world -Sparx-
I need Forest names like the Wayless woods in Inkheart. Something like that. I also need...
Girls and Guys names
Lakes and oceans
Kingdom names
Any names at all would be helpful cuz right now i am so stuck! Oh and just an FYI i like unique names but not to long or weird or hard to say...like Renesmee thats just a trashy name. Who would ever? Anyways i like kind of old english/Gaelic/Celtic/Welsh sounding names. Or even American. So if you could answer ALL parts of this question you'll definitely get a 'Best Answer' and some points! Please help me! -Lilly
Well I don't know if there are truly American names because it is after all just a conglomerate of a bunch of different races and cultures. (thus the melting pot huh lol) Celtic, gaelic is good. Actually I am currently writing a story and basing some of my made up race's beliefs loosely on the celts. Also another influence, as far as sound is involved is Hawaiian. They seem to have very soft and flowing words where as Gaelic tends to have harder sounding words. (course I do not know what your preference is)
If you do settle for a certain genre just try to be consistent. Like if you decide to make up names or a language (nothing wrong with this) try to make sure they are alike in there flow. Like the way they are pronounced or certain letter combinations.
As for made up names of places or people, I often find my inspiration in already existing words, for example... rent... turn the letters around and see what you get, experiment. (maybe I am weird in using this method, who knows) I got Tren....so now he is going to be a shady character in my story.
Aloea
Cheyruan (I see this as a beautiful peaceful city)
Joud
Corbuin
Seijgo
Wailea
Solaris
Aram
Ceran
Cerius
Keila
Corai
Ziyre
Alycea
Eludon
Eliabelle

Okay, first of all, is your fantasy world called Sparx, because if it is you might want to be aware that there is a book called The People of SPARKS by Jeanne DuPrau
Forest names: they should be something descriptive of the place. Say there were lots of evil things in the forest, you could call it The Woeful Wood or something like that (that’s really bad i know). What i suggest is getting a thesaurus and try to find synonyms that match what you want people to feel when they first read the name of the forest.
Girl Names: Ailey, Aylin, Blair, Brennan, Brie, Ciara, Devin/on, Emer, Finn, Kaley, MaKenna, McCay, Regan
Boy Names: Aden, Brawley, Cael, Ciar, Colin, Cray, Dolan, Ellar, Faolan, Kagan, Kieran, Quinn
Some of these names can also be used as kingdom/lake/ocean names, and if these weren’t what you were looking for or want more,
here’s the site i used: http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com…
I hope i helped, i’m really bad at the naming of things, generally speaking. Good luck on your novel!!!
