Help with a ring, PLEASE!!!?
Taking the 4Cs into consideration, what would be a good quality but affordable engagement ring? Please use 4Cs?

Please use specific specifications of the 4Cs. Thanks!

I recommend starting with a general description based on the 4Cs, and write down your budget. Then go to one or both of the diamond search engines (http://www.diamondpriceguru.com/ or Price Scope) and play aound on their search tools to see whether that "good quality" ring also fits your budget. If it does, you might even "upgrade" a little in one or more of the 4Cs, if you like. And if it doesn't fit your budget, you can toggle the switches for one or more of the 4Cs "downscale" until something works for you.

If possible, I'd recommend these 4Cs:
Cut Grade: "Very good" or "ideal." (Most people can't tell the difference without a machine's help.)
Color: J or higher (D-J) if the setting will be white gold (You can go down to L grade with yellow gold.)
Clarity: VS2 or higher (It means if you look at it under 10x magnification, you can't see imperfections.)
Carat: This is a personal taste question. But whatever size you are considering, aim to be slightly less than the full-carat or half-carat marks. (For example, .48-carat diamonds cost less per carat than .51-carat diamonds. Jewelers base their prices on brackets, like 0-0.5, 0.5-1, 1-1.5, 1.5-2, etc.)

Also, while most diamonds you see are round, the round diamonds are not the least expensive. If you happen to like emerald cut, oval, Assher cut, you're in luck, because they cost less (per carat) than comperable round diamonds.

Also, if possible, I recommend GIA grading reports or AGS. EGL is not considered as reputable in the United States.

Just for curiosity, I took the advice I just gave you ("very good" or higher cut, J or higher color, VS2 or higher clarity) and plugged them into the first diamond search engine, picking "round" shape and ".48 carats or higher" weight. The price range started at $744.

I hope this helps.

What I would do, if you have a drawing of what you're wanting–take a picture to an independent jeweler–who can custom make what you're wanting. You'll probably have to simply call jewelers from the yellow pages, and find one who can do what you're wanting. Make sure to get references before you agree to do business with him/her, and also check the Better Business Bureau for complaints against the business. Since you're wanting something so custom, it will probably be easier in the long run to simply have it made. Congrats and best of luck to you in your marriage!

Darn. You just missed the Highland games at Dunsmuir House last week or the week before.

One thing you might consider, if you're willing to wait for Labor Day weekend, go to the Highland Games at the Pleasanton fairgrounds. It's a huge event, and the dealers rooms are always filled with jewelers who have lots of jewelry based on Celtic knotwork, many at quite reasonable prices.

These are good too, but it is hard to find the black background bc you are getting it in white gold/silver:

    Good Luck!

You're in luck. The style you're talking about is extremely popular. It sounds like this site has exactly what you're looking for.

Even if it doesn't (or if these are too expensive, etc) a LOT of jewelers have this kind of design. Some of them deal exclusively in celtic knotwork patterns, others just have one or two rings with it, but either way, a little hunting on the internet should prove useful. Just google search "celtic weddding band." In fact, here…
