How do I enlarge a quilting applique pattern?
I have a pattern I want to enlarge to make into a king sized quilt. It will be approximately 77"x77" (Over 5 ft). The pattern itself is about 7" by 7" though. I need it 11 times bigger and I don't know how to do this while still making it look like the same pattern. It's a celtic trinity heart like the one here: http://www.celticgiftshop.com/shopping_admin/images/prod_img/S44062.JPG . I can't get my printer to print the image on that many pages. No online site has a pattern let alone this big. I am hugely pressed for time. What would you do?
You may need to do this by hand. Print out the pattern and then
pencil in a 1" square grid. then you can take each piece of the grid and enlarge it, transfer each part of the 1' square onto a larger grid,
in your case, each 1" needs to become 10" . If you do each 10"
grid on a separate piece of paper, then you can staple or tape the
individual grids together to make the size quilt you need. The only
thing is that somethime enlarging something that much, the design
doesn't look as good as at a smaller size. So you may need to play
around with the dimensions to see what looks best.
